Another Forgery Story

A new book by Ron Suskind claims that the Bush Administration forged a letter to make it look like Saddam Hussein had something to do with training 9/11 terrorists.

It's an explosive charge but the evidence seems thin to non-existent.

If true and the president knew about it, it would be an impeachable offense. But there is no evidence of that. In fact, Suskind suggests that Bush would have been kept from knowing about the forgery by that dastardly Dick Cheney. But then, there doesn't appear to be any evidence that Cheney knew about the alleged forgery either, just supposition on the part of Suskind.

Interesting that the last forgery involving Bush went to CBS News' 60 Minutes and cost Dan Rather his career.

While it is true that the left is willing to believe anything that reflects poorly or criminally on the Bush Administration, the right has been suspect of the CIA for some time. Like any organization, there are factions within it, who have their own agendas and political loyalties.

It will be interesting to see where this story leads, if anywhere.

This is why we should ignore and dismiss the shrill partisan Hurt Feelings LibDems who are determined to divide our country because they hate the President of the United States more than they hate even terrorists.

Oh, here's one now...

Suskind could be open for a libel suit if he can't substanciate his lying claims. Which is looking like he cannot seeing how the CIA agents “quoted” in his book have denied the quotes he atributed to them.

Just imagine how this Lying Lib Bush-hater slanted all his “journalism” assignments over the years.

Well, looks like this story has legs. The American Conservative, reports their inside sources confirm that the White House ordered this fake letter, although they say the job was given to Doug Feith. Stay tuned.

From the American Conservative

An extremely reliable and well placed source in the intelligence community has informed me that Ron Suskind’s revelation that the White House ordered the preparation of a forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaeda and also to attempts made to obtain yellowcake uranium is correct but that a number of details are wrong.

The Suskind account states that two senior CIA officers Robert Richer and John Maguire supervised the preparation of the document under direct orders coming from Director George Tenet. Not so, says my source. Tenet is for once telling the truth when he states that he would not have undermined himself by preparing such a document while at the same time insisting publicly that there was no connection between Saddam and al-Qaeda. Richer and Maguire have both denied that they were involved with the forgery and it should also be noted that preparation of such a document to mislead the media is illegal and they could have wound up in jail.

My source also notes that Dick Cheney, who was behind the forgery, hated and mistrusted the Agency and would not have used it for such a sensitive assignment. Instead, he went to Doug Feith’s Office of Special Plans and asked them to do the job. The Pentagon has its own false documents center, primarily used to produce fake papers for Delta Force and other special ops officers traveling under cover as businessmen. It was Feith’s office that produced the letter and then surfaced it to the media in Iraq. Unlike the Agency, the Pentagon had no restrictions on it regarding the production of false information to mislead the public. Indeed, one might argue that Doug Feith’s office specialized in such activity.

Looks like this story has legs.

This story has legs. This is from the American Conservative:

Ron Suskind’s new book alleges that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein linking the dictator to the 9/11 terrorists. The American Conservative’s Philip Giraldi argues today that “an extremely reliable and well placed source in the intelligence community” told him Suskind’s overall claim “is correct,” but that it was Douglas Feith’s Office of Special Plans — not the CIA — that forged the letter.

RR said: "This is why we should ignore and dismiss the shrill partisan Hurt Feelings LibDems who are determined to divide our country because they hate the President of the United States more than they hate even terrorists." Who's dividing the country?

Certain people on this blog will undoubtedly still support this administration and its unwaranted use of American troops in Iraq, even if Suskind's allegations prove to be true. If Bush came out and took a dump right in front of us, RR would call it fertilizer.
